PLAYING TEXAS HOLD 'EM POKER

To play Texas Hold 'em Poker you must have enough chips on the table to place a blind bet.

1. The Players to the left of the Dealer begin the game by posting the blind bets. The Player on the Dealer's left posts a small blind, and the Player on the Small Blind's left posts a big blind bet.
   
   Note:
   The Dealer's position at the table changes after every hand. The dealer-button shows the Dealer's position at the table.
   
2. Two pocket cards are dealt to each Player.
3. In the first round, the Player to the Big Blind's left plays first and can either:
   
   
   • Call
   • Raise
   • Fold

4. Note:
   Players cannot Check in the first round of betting because the Blinds are bets, not antes.

5. In the second round, three community cards are dealt. This is called the Flop. Players can either:
   
   
   • Check
   • Raise
   • Fold
     
     
6. In the third round, a fourth community card is dealt, called the Turn. Another round of betting follows.
7. In the fourth round a fifth and final community card is dealt, called the River Card. This is followed by the final round of betting. The remaining Players then use their two pocket cards and the five community cards to create the best five-card hand possible. The winner takes the pot.
   
   Note:
   If two or more Players have the same hand, the pot is split equally between them.

Omaha Hi-Lo Poker is a variation of Omaha Poker.

Omaha Hi-Lo Poker uses the rules of Omaha Poker, but has the following differences:

In Omaha Hi-Lo Poker, Players are less inclined to fold on a bad hand as the highest and lowest hands split the pot equally.

The Players with the best high hand and low hand split the pot.

Two to eight Players can can play Omaha Hi-Lo at one time.

PLAYING THE GAME

Note:
To play Omaha Hi-Lo poker you must have enough chips on the table to place a blind bet and a bet.

Omaha Hi-Lo plays as follows:

   Important:
   Winning hands must consist of two pocket cards and three community cards.
   Low hands can only win if all the cards in the hand have a value of eight or less. If the five community cards do not include at least three cards with a value of eight or less, there is no possibility of making a low hand. In this case, the high hand wins the whole pot.

Note:
It is not always possible to create both a low hand and a high hand. Sometimes you can only play for either the high hand or the low hand.
It is possible to win the entire pot by having both the highest and lowest hands.
If you and another Player tie on a low hand, you both win a quarter of the pot. This is known as the pot being quartered.

Example:
Player A wins the high hand and Players B and C tie for the low hand. The pot is $100. Player A receives $50 and Players B and C receive $25 each.

STRATEGIES

To improve your chances of winning, use the following strategies:

• A pair is more of a restriction than a help if one of the pair is a community card of the same value as one of your private, low cards. This means that your hidden card does not give you a low hand advantage.
  

• When there are less than four Players at the table, you still lose money if the pot is quartered.
  

• You must decide quickly if you are eligible to play for the low hand, and adjust your betting accordingly.
  

• If you have a strong high hand after the flop, it is advisable to play aggressively through to the end. This ensures you have a good chance of winning half the pot.

PLAYING THE GAME

Note:
To play Seven-Card Stud you must have enough chips on the table to place an ante and a bet.

Seven-Card Stud plays as follows:

1. Place an ante on the table.
   
   Note:
   
   

   • The ante amount is set by the card room.

   • There is no ante at $0.50/$1.00 tables.
     
     

2. You are dealt three cards, two hole cards and one card face-up.
   
   

3. The Player with the lowest card showing by suit, must bring-in the betting.
   
   Note:
   Suits are ranked from low to high - Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts and Spades.
   
   

4. A round of betting begins. Players can either:
   
   

   • Raise

   • Call

   • Fold
     
     

5. After all the Players have contributed the same amount into the pot, the fourth card, the Fourth Street, is dealt face-up and there is another round of betting.
   
   Note:
   

   • In fixed limit games, Fourth Street betting is still at the lower limit unless a Player has a Pair showing.

   • If a Pair is showing, the first Player to bet may choose to open the betting at the higher limit.
     
     

6. At Fifth Street, in fixed limit games, the bets are at the higher amount whether or not a Pair is showing. At Sixth Street, the final face-up card is dealt.
   
   

7. The last phase of Seven-Card Stud is Seventh Street. The seventh card is dealt face down to all Players, followed by the final round of betting and the Showdown.
   Note:
   For the purposes of a showdown, the suits have no rank in 7 card stud

STRATEGIES

To improve your chances of winning, use the following strategies:

• A big pair in your first three cards is worth betting on, unless another Player is betting aggressively on what seems to be a very good hand.
  
  

• Fifth Street is a make-or-break point. As the bet amount doubles each round, ensure your hand can produce a win at the end of the game. This minimizes your loss.
  
  

• It is advisable to fold if another Player's exposed cards beat your entire hand.
  
  

• If you are trying to complete a hand such as a Straight or a Flush, check to see if the cards you need are live. These are cards that are not showing in other Players hands. You can then adjust your strategy accordingly.
